Tom Bayer Racing Notes & NewsletterOctober 26, 2010
By Bob Johnson Fontana, Calif. August 28, 2010

Thomas Bayer won the seventh race of the 8-event Lucas Oil Super Comp Association series at Auto Club Dragway, Fontana, Calif., driving his Lucas Oil Products, Toyo Tires, K&N Filters, B&M Converters and Crower Racing sponsored dragster. Bayer entered the event primarily to test the Team dragster, but went to the final round where he defeated Andrew Madrid.

Bayer, who had entered only four of the eight events on the Lucas Super Comp schedule, qualified with an 8.902 second timing for the second best qualifying time, tied with Chad Langdon. Jeff Derencin was the top qualifier of the day with a perfect 8.900.

Eliminations began with Thomas running .009 off the index to beat Chuck Babcock, in the second round he used a .002 reaction time to beat Nevada racer Corey LeClair, and in round three he used a .010 reaction time and 8.901 to beat newly crowned series champion Bobby Dye Jr.

Thomas-who won the Lucas Oil Super Comp championship in 2004-got a bye run in the quarterfinals, and in the semifinals he ran 8.919, 150.92 mph to defeat Jeff Murdock, losing with a too quick 8.887. Andrew Madrid had a .010 advantage at the start of the final round against Bayer, but the Lucas Oil Products, Toyo Tires, K&N Filters, B&M Converters and Crower Racing entry got the win light with an 8.925, 156.84 to a losing 8.935, 160.61 for Madrid.

Fontana, Calif. August 28, 2010 Thomas Bayer had the pleasure of driving Lucas Oil marketing director Tom Bogner's Lucas Oil sponsored '57 Chevy Corvette during the Southern California Pro Gas Assoc., event at Auto Club Dragway. While driving his dragster to a final round victory in the Super Comp class, Thomas won three rounds of Pro Gas eliminations with Bogner's Corvette before losing to Travis Balough's Corvette in the quarterfinal round.

Bayer defeated Steve Parsons, 2010 Pro Gas Champion Val Torres, and Brenden Herem before losing to Balough in a double breakout contest.

Bakersfield, Calif. Sept 16-18, 2010
Thomas Bayer went into the fifth race of the six race Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield holding the divisional points lead in both Super Gas and Super Comp. Thomas went to the third round with the Lucas Oil Products, Toyo Tires, K&N Filters, B&M Converters and Crower Racing Super Comp entry at Bakersfield, but lost early with the Super Gas Corvette.

Medford, Ore. Sept 24-26, 2010
Tom Bayer Racing lost some ground at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Medford, Oregon, losing in the early rounds with both cars. With a few weeks off before the grueling stretch beginning with the Las Vegas Nationals, the break will give the team time to regroup, prep the cars for the three major events in late October through the Auto Club Finals at Pomona in mid-October, with a goal of winning a divisional championship and finishing in the national top ten with both cars.
